Recipe for onion cabbage rolls

Instead of cabbage, which is used to make cabbage rolls, you can use onions. The vegetable also needs to be steamed. The slices become soft, and you can easily wrap the minced meat in them.
The idea of making onion cabbage rolls was published on the Instagram page of the famous Ukrainian chef Hector Jimenez-Bravo (hectorjimenezbravo). Instead of frying vegetables, make a sauce with tomato puree and pomegranate juice.

Ingredients:
- onions - 3 pcs (2 for boiling, 1 for frying)
- carrots - 2 pieces
- garlic - 3 cloves
- minced meat - 500 g
- rice cereal - 1 cup
- pomegranate juice - ¼ cup
- fresh mint
- juice of ½ lemon
- tomato puree - 2 tbsp
- pine nuts - 40 g
- salt - to taste
Ingredients for the sauce:
- water in which the onions were cooked - 2.5 cups
- tomato puree - 2 tbsp
- pomegranate juice - ¼ cup
- salt - 2 tbsp.
Method of preparation:
Cut the onion

1. Peel two onions, cut from one side to the center, and cook in salted water for about 20 minutes.
2. Remove the onions and save the water for the sauce.
Fry the minced meat

3. In a frying pan with a little oil, fry the third onion until golden brown, add carrots, garlic and fry for 3 minutes, stirring.
4. Add the minced meat and fry until the meat changes color.
Add mint and rice cereal

5. Add pomegranate juice, tomato puree, chopped mint, and fry. Make the filling by adding rice to the frying.
6. Drain the remaining water from the boiled onions and separate each layer.
Immerse the onion in cold water

7. Form the cabbage rolls, and put them in a wide low pot covered with parchment, close to each other.
8. Mix pomegranate, salt, and tomato puree in a saucepan.

9. Add the water in which we cooked the onions, bring to a boil and pour the sauce into the pot with the onions.
10. Cover with parchment.

11. Put in the oven preheated to 180 degrees for 2 hours.
