Herring is the kind of fish that can be simply cut up and served with onions. It's a perfect appetizer that all guests will enjoy. But if you like to experiment, then the recipe for pickled herring in tomato sauce is just for you. It turns out very unusual and spicy.

Pickled herring in tomato paste

Ingredients:

  • freshly frozen herring – 1 kg
  • onions – 3-4 pcs

Marinade:

  • oil – 1/2 cup
  • tomato paste – 2 tbsp
  • allspice – 1 tsp.
  • ground red pepper – 1 tsp
  • salt – 3 tbsp
  • sugar – 2 tbsp
  • vinegar 9% – 80 ml

Method of preparation:

1. Cut the herring into portions, and onion in half rings.

2. Mix the oil and tomato paste in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally.

3. Add pepper, salt, sugar and vinegar. Mix and chill.

4. Put the fish and onions in layers in the jar, pouring the marinade over each layer.

Cooking process

5. Put the herring in the refrigerator for about one day.
