Crepes and waffles for breakfast

In times of vitamin deficiency and constant stress, most people try to saturate their bodies with nutrients. When it comes to breakfast, it can be crepes or waffles as a source of protein and fiber. Some people like to add a lot of fruit. But if you start the day with such food, it can seriously harm your body.

Courtney D'Angelo, the author of GoWellness, told the American edition of Eat This Not That why crepes and waffles should not be chosen for breakfast.

According to the expert, one of the worst breakfasts for the immune system is crepes or waffles. Such foods usually contain a lot of sugar, syrups, chocolate, or whipped cream. Because of this, the body suffers greatly – the immune system deteriorates.

Why crepes and waffles interfere with maintaining a healthy immune system

For example, a study found in Nature Communications claims that high levels of fructose can lead to increased inflammation, which can weaken the immune system.

Foods high in fructose and refined carbohydrates can increase blood sugar levels and have a high glycemic index, which can cause inflammation, and lead to decreased energy and appetite. It weakens the immune system because the body is overloaded. At the same time, the substances that the body really needs are lacking.

But if you still can't give up such food, you should prepare it properly. Namely, to improve its nutritional value.

The expert advises: "If you want to eat crepes or waffles for breakfast, try adding protein powder, fiber, and antioxidants to the recipe. Instead of chocolate chips, use blueberries, which are rich in antioxidants, and replace regular white flour with oatmeal. You can also add a healthy protein powder."
