Svitlana Fus about the benefits and harms of nuts

Nowadays, nuts have become a real trendy delicacy. Many stores offer this product in a variety of beautiful jars with honey and all kinds of dried fruits. This product is also often added to porridge and even salads.

Famous Ukrainian nutritionist Svitlana Fus told us about the beneficial properties of nuts, the best way to eat them, and who should avoid them on her Facebook page.

Nuts are rich in nutrients – vitamins, minerals, and fiber. A strong shell protects valuable fats and vitamin E from oxidation. This product should be fresh, not fried. It is in the raw form that nuts give maximum benefit. After heat treatment, they are lost.

It is advisable to buy nuts in their shells. Peeled and packaged in bags, they quickly oxidize and resemble the taste of rancid oil. You should also avoid nuts with sugar and honey. The calorie content is quite high – 690 kcal/100 g. This is due to the presence of fats in the form of healthy polyunsaturated acids. Therefore, many people refuse this product because of the risk of overweight.

But the health benefits still prevail. Those who consume just 20 grams of nuts per day have lower risks of coronary heart disease, cancer, and a lower risk of premature death. This applies to eating all types of nuts, not just one type in particular. This amount will not harm your figure and will not cause heaviness in the stomach.

Who should avoid nuts

But you need to remember that nuts are highly allergenic foods. People who are prone to protein allergies and intolerance should avoid them. There are contraindications in case of gastrointestinal diseases, some skin diseases, and thyroid hyperfunction.
