What will happen to the body if you stop eating bananas
A complete rejection of bananas can have an extremely negative impact on the body, affect the immune system, and increase blood pressure.
Nutritionists say that you should eat bananas every day, albeit in small quantities, reports Еatthis.
The immune system can be affected
Bananas – and unripe bananas in particular – are an excellent source of resistant starch. Resistant starch has a prebiotic effect, that is, it is in favor of healthy bacteria in the digestive tract. However, if you eliminate bananas from your diet, you may deprive the beneficial gut bacteria of the food they need to multiply.
Poor recovery after training
Bananas are effective in reducing post-workout inflammation and produce higher levels of circulating dopamine in athletes after a workout than carbohydrate-based recovery drinks, which means that not having them in your post-workout diet can lead to more wear and tear on your body.
Constant feeling of hunger
If you give up bananas to lose weight, the effect will be the opposite. According to a 2017 study published in the Journal of Functional Foods, eating resistant starch from unripe banana flour before meals resulted in a 14% reduction in subsequent calorie intake. Of course, such chemical changes in your body are less likely to occur with ripe bananas, but bananas can still contribute to weight loss.
You may become more susceptible to flu, colds
If you get the flu every year, you probably want to keep bananas on your menu. A 2020 study published in PNAS found that modified banana lectin (a type of indigestible sugar-binding fiber) has antiviral properties even against several strains of influenza. But remember that a banana is not a panacea for diseases.
You may have high blood pressure
If you want to maintain normal blood pressure, you need to keep potassium-rich bananas on the menu. A 2005 study published in the journal Hypertension found that potassium-rich foods can have the same blood pressure-lowering effect as potassium chloride, a supplement often used to lower blood pressure.
You may be at increased risk of stroke
High blood pressure is a serious risk factor for stroke, and avoiding potassium-rich foods like bananas can only increase your blood pressure. Studies have shown that people who had an increased potassium intake reduced their risk of stroke by as much as 24%.
