Ukrainian-style strudel: how to prepare a popular dessert in a new way

Strudel is a popular pie with apple filling. The dessert is of Austrian origin. The peculiarity of this pastry is that the dough should be rolled out as thinly as possible so that it can be seen through. You can add a Ukrainian flavor if you use our juicy and sweet apples.

The idea of making Ukrainian-style strudel was published on the Instagram page of food blogger Yulia (yuliia.senych). It's a perfect baking option for a family tea party.

Ingredients:

  • flour - 150 g
  • warm water - 75 ml.
  • vegetable oil - 15 ml.
  • salt - 1.5 g
  • egg yolk - 1 pc.

Ingredients for the filling:

  • Ginger Gold apples - 1 kg.
  • breadcrumbs - 50 g
  • sugar - 60 g
  • cinnamon
  • butter - 60 g

Method of preparation:

1. Add salt and warm water to sifted flour.

2. Add egg yolk and oil.

3. Knead the dough for about 10-15 minutes, it will be sticky at first, but after kneading, it should become smooth and soft.

4. Leave the dough to rest at room temperature for one hour.

5. Peel the apples and cut them into slices.

6. Add raisins, if desired.

7. Roll out the dough thinly on a floured surface. It should be seen through.

8. Dust a kitchen towel with flour and place the dough on it.

9. Stretch the edges of the dough from the center.

10. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with breadcrumbs.

11. Then add the filling.

12. Sprinkle the apples with sugar and cinnamon. Roll up with the towel.

13. Pinch the edges, brush with butter and sprinkle with sugar or almond flakes.

14. Bake at 200 degrees for 35-45 minutes.
