A vegan diet is harmful to bone health: people who eat only plant-based foods are at high risk of fractures.

This is evidenced by the results of a study published in the journal Nutrients. The experiment was conducted by experts from the German Charité Clinic in Berlin, the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment, Martin Luther University, and the University of Potsdam.

The German scientists' experiment involved 72 people aged 30 to 60 with a body mass index of less than 30, without diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, or pregnancy.

The participants of the experiment were divided into two groups: in the first group, people did not eat animal products at all, and in the second group, participants ate at least three servings of regular meat or two servings of sausages.

Participants in both groups were tested and kept detailed food diaries. They had their height and weight, waist circumference measured, and an ultrasound examination of their bones, which showed that people who gave up animal food had lower scores than those who ate meat. In addition, they had lower levels of calcium in their urine, zinc concentrations, selenoproteins, and a lack of total fatty acids in the body.

According to scientists, vegan or vegetarian diets can protect against chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, or cancer, but they do not have the best effect on bone health, so people often suffer from fractures.
