How to choose and brew coffee: tips from the winner of the world competition in brewing the drink
Making coffee is a real ritual. In order for your drink to have the perfect taste, you need to choose the right beans and even pour water at the right temperature.
The FoodOboz editorial team at IDEALIST coffee production talked to Ivan Bilousov, the champion of Ukraine and bronze winner of the international coffee jug welding competition. The expert told us what you need to pay attention to when making a drink at home.
Expert advice on how to choose and brew coffee correctly
Ivan says that when choosing coffee, you need to pay special attention to the roasting method. For example, if you take coffee that is roasted specifically for espresso and use it for home brewing in a filter, the coffee will be overbrewed and bitter. The optimal temperature for brewing coffee is 96 degrees. If it is higher, the drink will be over-extracted. Therefore, after the water boils, you need to wait 1-2 minutes, and only then pour it in.
When you choose a tub for your home, pay attention to the fact that it resembles an hourglass shape. There are some turks that are very narrow at the top - this is not quite right, because with a narrow neck, the foam rises unevenly, stays, and you get a mixture - overbrewed coffee at the bottom and underbrewed coffee at the top. This has a very bad effect on the final taste.
The volume should be chosen according to the following scheme - one turkey for one cup. Why it is so. Ivan explains: "Sometimes they bring a jar, and you start pouring it into cups. As a result, the coffee grounds get unevenly into the cup. Such coffee will not taste good either."
Ivan gives a clear answer to the question "can I pour cold water over my coffee?" - yes! It is not scientifically proven that this can affect the taste of the drink. The main thing is to use purified water and let the finished drink brew for about 5 minutes to ensure the flavor is rich.
