Daily allowance of salt
Adults
Adults can eat no more than 6 g of salt, which is about 1 tsp.
Children
From 1 to 3 years - no more than 2 g.
From 4 to 6 years - no more than 3 g.
From 7 to 10 years - no more than 5 g.
From 11 years old - no more than 6 g.
Infants
Salt should be kept to a minimum for infants, as their kidneys are not fully developed at this age and are not able to process salt properly.
Until the age of 1, babies can eat no more than 1 g of salt per day.
