A recipe for the perfect tea has been invented in Britain
Alan Mackey from the University of Leeds, UK, has come up with a tea recipe specifically for regions with hard water, with milk as its main component.
It is worth noting that the scientist proposed a seemingly unconventional way to prepare a morning drink, namely, to pour milk into a tea bag before adding boiling water. This was reported by The Sun.
"Traditionally making tea – steeping the bag in hot water before removing it and adding milk – causes the tannins to turn into solid particles before they can properly reveal their flavors. But if you add milk at the beginning of the tea bag steeping process, the milk proteins can bind to the tannins and other minerals in the water, preventing them from turning into a solid, which in turn gives you a much better flavor," the scientist said.
Importantly, according to research, this method of making tea supposedly helps to neutralize hard water.
"The flavor is mostly created by various compounds in tea, particularly tannins. The more minerals there are in the water, the harder it is for these compounds to reveal their flavor, which leads to the tasteless tea you get in regions with hard water," the expert added.
It is worth noting that 16.7 million Britons living in areas with hard water may need Alan Mackey's tea recipe.
