As strange as it may sound, there are indeed foods with an inexhaustible shelf life if stored properly.

The most surprising thing is that there is food that can "live" for a hundred years. The FoodOboz editorial team has compiled a complete list of foods with a long shelf life.

Biscuits

A special kind of biscuits for military use – "hardtaki" – are ordinary breadcrumbs made with flour and water, which could not even be bitten, but had to be hit hard to break. These biscuits were part of the diet of the soldiers of the Northern army during the American Civil War (1861-1864) and remained edible for a hundred years without spoiling.

Honey

Honey can be stored for centuries, as evidenced by archaeological finds in ancient Egyptian tombs – pots of honey.

The secret of its storage is that yeast and bacteria do not grow in pure honey due to its high sugar content, low water content, and acidity. Therefore, it is one of the oldest natural preservatives.

Strong alcohol

Rum, gin, whiskey, tequila, and vodka can last forever when unopened. But wines should not be stored for a long time, but not all of them. Especially: white wines, which live no more than two years, and red wines – up to ten. The exception is elite wines, which can indeed be safely stored for up to a hundred years.

Powdered milk

The shelf life of milk powder is inversely proportional to the fat content. The less fat, the longer it can be stored. Whole milk powder will spoil in two years, while skim milk powder can be stored for up to twenty years. Just remember that the main thing is to keep it in the refrigerator.

Instant coffee

Instant coffee has a shelf life of 5 years in an airtight container and up to 20 years at room temperature. But if you store it in the refrigerator, it will "live" forever.

Dried or dried meat

Pemmican is a fatty dried meat native to North America. If stored in the refrigerator, it will have a shelf life of several decades.
