5 most popular products in the USSR
There are legends about the food of the USSR, some say that the food tasted bad and was of the same quality. Someone else claims that it was the best food that cannot be compared to today's quality, especially canned food, juices, and fish.
Today, FoodOboz editorial team invites you to find out which 5 products from the USSR were considered the most delicious and of the highest quality.
1. Condensed milk
This product was absolutely safe and even healthy in the USSR. The main ingredient was exclusively natural milk. This condensed milk was given to children and pregnant women, and everyone could eat it safely.
2. Ice cream
Everyone who remembers the taste of real Soviet Plombir claims that it had an amazing natural, milky taste and incredible aroma, and if you compare it to ice cream, but now it is a completely different product.
Before that, Soviet ice cream was absolutely "pure" without a gram of chemicals, additives, or dyes, which gave it the right to be called an absolutely safe product.
3. Canned food, stew
These products were in great demand because not everyone could buy expensive meat and fish. So, instead, I used various canned foods and stews to make soups and pasta. They were absolutely safe and natural, and had a good taste and smell.
4. Juices and water
These two beverages were so popular that store shelves were bursting with them. You could choose for every taste at very affordable prices, but most importantly, the juices were only natural.
Sweet waters were based on various syrups and sodas, which made them absolutely safe to drink for everyone – from adults to children.
5. Boiled sausage
There were four types of sausage in the USSR:
- top grade – amateur, Krasnodar, metropolitan, Belarusian, doctor's, veal
- 1st grade – Moscow, chopped ham, pork, Tbilisi, new special with cheese
- 2nd – tea, pork, beef, lamb new with cheese, snack
- 3rd – garlic
Everyone could choose for every taste and budget, but regardless of the variety, all sausages were absolutely natural, tasty, and, most importantly, safe.
