A screwdriver is one of the first tools we buy for our home toolkit. But it can still happen that you don't have one at hand at the right time. What should you do in such a situation, do you run out and get a new one?

Experienced craftsmen say that an item that you have in your kitchen can help you out. OBOZ.UA tells you more about this life hack. The item you need is a knife for peeling vegetables.

However, not every type of vegetable peeler is suitable. A screwdriver can be replaced by one that looks like a small knife with a curved blade and slits on it. The blade must be metal.

Such a tool is suitable for a Phillips screw, but it may not work on a flat-head screw. Also, do not use a vegetable peeler for miniature parts; a wire screwdriver, such as a paper clip, is more suitable for them as a temporary option.

All you need to do is insert the tip of the potato peeler into the grooves of the screw, apply a little pressure, and turn it. Do not try to turn it out completely with a vegetable knife. When you can grip the screw with your fingers, finish the job by hand. Otherwise, the potato peeler can damage the thread on the head and the screw will become unusable.

The same goes for tightening. Start by hand and then tighten it with a vegetable knife, but not all the way. The main thing is that the screw minimally secures the part in place. Tighten the thread completely when you find a proper screwdriver.
