When to plant potatoes in 2024: favorable dates have been named

Experienced gardeners know that the sowing calendar can really have a positive impact on the quality and volume of the crop. That's why they check its recommendations especially carefully when they plan to plant long-term storage crops. For example, potatoes.

OBOZ.UA asked about the dates when this year it is best to sow the garden with this root crop. There will be plenty of good days both in April and May.

Proper preparation

Before the chosen date, do not forget to properly prepare the soil and seed. At least a few weeks in advance, take out the potatoes you've prepared for planting and sort them out. Throw away anything that has spoiled over the winter. Start germinating the tubers in a way that is convenient for you: in the air, spraying them from time to time, or in a moist substrate.

If you buy planting material, don't forget to treat the tubers for infections and soak them in a fungicide. This will ensure that the plants are healthy. You can also apply growth stimulants in moderation.

Wait until the weather is stable and warm. The temperature should not drop below 10 degrees Celsius even at night. The soil should also warm up to this temperature. Usually, all the conditions for planting potatoes are in place in April.

Good dates for planting potatoes

Regardless of whether you plant potatoes in the garden in April or May, there are plenty of good days during both months. So, good dates for the root crop this spring will be:

• In April - the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 10th, 11th, 19th, 20th, 21st, 29th, 30th,
• in May - 3, 4, 7, 11, 12, 13, 26, 27, 30 and 31.
