How to fertilize beets to make them as sweet as possible: tips
Beets play a special role in Ukrainian culinary culture. It is an ingredient in many delicious dishes and an integral part of the world-famous Ukrainian borscht.
That is why it is often planted on land plots, but unfortunately, gardeners do not always manage to grow sweet and juicy beets. However, Na Pensii has shared a fertilization method that will certainly increase your chances of success.
Beets are not only tasty, but also healthy vegetables that contain potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, and vitamin B.
To grow a sweet and juicy vegetable, you need to follow many rules. First of all, you need to choose a sunny place for planting that is well ventilated. The soil should be fertile, fertilized, well-drained and not acidic. However, sometimes even following all these rules does not allow you to get the desired result.
But don't be discouraged and upset, because there is one ingredient that is in every kitchen that will certainly increase the sugar content of beets.
Salt
As strange as it may sound, beets need to be salted to make them juicy and sweet.
To prepare the salt fertilizer, you need 10 liters of water and just one teaspoon of salt. First, dissolve the salt in a small amount of water until it dissolves completely. Then mix the solution with 10 liters of water and pour it over the beds. But do not overdo it so as not to damage the soil.
Wood ash will also have a good effect on root crops. You can either dilute 1 cup in 10 liters of water or simply sprinkle it between the rows.
Also, do not forget to thin out the beets so that they are large (there should be a distance of 15-20 cm between plants in a row), water the beds abundantly and properly, especially during drought, weed out weeds and protect plants from diseases and pests.
