How to clean your home quickly: The "one tool method" that will change your approach forever

It's multitasking that makes cleaning time-consuming and tiring

Efficiency is important in home maintenance, because it's a lot of work that needs to be done all the time. That is why there is a whole sea of life hacks on how to minimize efforts and at the same time improve the result, and the one-tool method is one of the most interesting.

OBOZ.UA learned more about this approach. We will tell you how to use it and where it will be most useful.

What is the single instrument method?

As the name implies, the essence of the method is to clean the house with just one item. But this doesn't mean that you just have to wipe everything in the house - from the toilet seat to your toothbrushes - with one sponge.

In fact, this approach helps you concentrate on one type of work and get it done. For example, take a cloth to wipe off dust. This is your only tool for the next few minutes. Go around the entire house or room with it (depending on how much area you're going to clean) and wipe all the surfaces. Only when you are completely done with this rag do you take up the next tool - a vacuum cleaner, mop, brush, etc.

This approach is fundamentally different from the "room by room" or "new day, new room" approach. In this case, you usually take all the necessary tools to one place, clean that space from top to bottom, and then move on to the next. This method allows you to do all the work sequentially and without gaps.

How can you apply this method in practice?

Try the following algorithm of actions within one room for starters:

  • put things in their places;
  • take a damp cloth and remove all dust;
  • vacuum the floor and upholstered furniture;
  • wash the floor.

Once you've started one type of work, finish it and only then move on to the next step. Over time, you may notice that cleaning with this algorithm is much faster. That's because you're not distracted and don't have to spend time preparing for a new task every time.

Does this method work everywhere?

No, you won't be able to clean the bathroom or kitchen this way. That's because these rooms are dirtier than the rest of the rooms and require specific, more active cleaning products. In addition, you'll have to change tools frequently, because you're unlikely to want to clean the toilet and bathtub with the same brush. Or wash dishes and the trash can compartment with one sponge.
