Cucumber is one of the most popular vegetables in the world because it has many advantages that make it a favorite on the table of people with different tastes and preferences. That is why cucumber has become a crop that can be seen in almost every Ukrainian garden.

However, not all people plant the plants successfully, so as a result, they do not get the desired quantity and quality of fruit. Filizhanka Kava shared popular planting schemes that will allow cucumbers to develop properly.

The distance between plants directly affects the fruiting of the crop. Thus, if cucumbers are planted too densely, the plants will not receive enough nutrients from the soil, because they will have to compete with each other.

In addition, a thickened planting promotes the spread of diseases and reduces the plant's immunity, so you will end up with small and bitter fruits at best.

However, planting cucumbers too far apart is also not worth it. This will lead to irrational use of the soil, as well as the rapid spread of weeds.

Schemes for planting cucumbers in open ground

The planting scheme for cucumbers should be chosen depending on the variety you are using.

Single line scheme

This is the simplest scheme. It consists of the fact that the depressions in the soil should be made in one row, at a distance of 20 centimeters from each other.

Each row should be at least 100 centimeters apart to avoid cross-pollination.

The tape scheme

This scheme is very similar to the previous one, but in this case, some rows are placed at a distance of 50 centimeters from each other.

That is, 20 centimeters are still left between the plants in one row. Between several rows leave 50 centimeters, and between some 100-150 centimeters.

The checkerboard pattern

On the one hand, this scheme is convenient, because when using it, cucumbers are planted in a random order so that they are equidistant from each other by 60-70 centimeters. On the other hand, since the plants fill the entire area of the plot with lashes, it is more difficult to care for them.

The bush method

This method is very similar to planting zucchini or pumpkin. A large distance is made between the depressions in the soil, leaving up to 2 meters per cucumber bush. In this case, several seeds are sown in one hole at once.

This method works well for soils that are not very nutritious and have poor germination.

Using a support

This scheme is not often used in the open field, but it still exists. In this case, the plants should be spaced 40-50 centimeters apart in one row, and 1 meter between the rows.

Herringbone scheme

This decorative planting scheme is suitable for those who want not only to get a plentiful harvest but also to decorate their site.

To do this, you need to prepare a 2 by 2 bed. In the center, install support about 1.5-2 meters high, retreat 70-80 centimeters from it, and plant cucumbers in a circle at a distance of 40 centimeters from each other.

As soon as the stairs appear, a twine is stretched from the top of the support along the stairs, to which the cucumbers are attached. This way, the cucumbers grow upward and form a nice conical structure.

Schemes for planting cucumbers in a greenhouse

In the confined and limited space of a greenhouse, every centimeter of soil must be used rationally.

Single line scheme

The principle is the same as when planting in open ground, but the distance between plants in a row should be 60-100 centimeters and between rows – 80-100 centimeters.

Two-line scheme

In this case, 60 centimeters are left between the plants in a row and two rows. And then every two rows are equidistant from the other two by a meter.

Single-row planting scheme for vertical cultivation

Vertical cultivation is not only convenient but also significantly saves space. With a single-line planting, it is worth leaving 30-40 centimeters between plants in rows, and up to 80 centimeters between rows.

Two-line planting scheme for vertical cultivation

If you plant cucumbers on both sides of the support, then there should be 40 centimeters between the holes in the row, about 50 centimeters between two rows, and 80 centimeters between every two rows.
