What is the secret of beauty of French women over 50

At the Cannes Film Festival 2024, one could see many French women, the pillars of the era, who, despite their age, remained the ideals of beauty for many. Of course, such beauties as Carla Bruni, Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu and Isabelle Huppert have their own secrets.

They all share an unspoken rule, The Telegraph writes. The formula of French beauty is that although women care about their appearance, at the same time, they do not care about it at all.

French philosophy of beauty

Terry de Gunzburg, a 68-year-old French makeup artist, certainly knows how to create a laid-back look. According to her, it all starts with a relaxed attitude towards appearance. "We are concerned about our appearance, but not as much as Americans, for example," de Gunzburg explains. "We want to look good, but it's not the most important thing either."

A makeup artist calls 71-year-old Isabelle Huppert's appearance a perfect example of French beauty. "Maybe you do small touches here and there, but inner beauty, personality and a beautiful smile are much more important," she says.

Her colleague Violette Serrat, who has more than half a million followers on Instagram, agrees. "In France, we take care of what nature has given us, and we don't pursue the ideal of youth because it won't bring us happiness," she says. The expert notes that French women use beauty as a tool of self-expression because it is inherent in their mentality.

Minimalist makeup

Serrat explains that in France, it's customary to just do a few strokes of makeup instead of a "full glam" if you're in the mood for it. By the way, everything is applied with fingers, not brushes. "In general, we are more minimalistic in our makeup. All you need is a little eye shadow, concealer, and lipstick," she adds. "Everyone says that French women look effortless, but the truth is that to look effortless, you have to be effortless.

Skin care

In France, it is more common to see beauties buying skin care products in a pharmacy, with pharmacists helping them choose. "From childhood, we are taught to avoid the sun and protect our skin from sunlight," de Gunzburg explains.
