The illusion of long nails. What is Italian manicure and which women are suitable for this ingenious technique

Owners of a short nail plate often get complex because of the difficulty of creating a variety of designs without extending long nails, so to relieve this pain, there is an Italian manicure technique that will visually increase the length. It will not be difficult to perform, but the result will be incredible.

Italian manicure has one nuance - it requires a monochromatic coating or a jacket. It is unlikely to be possible to create this with a bright design. According to British Vogue, you need to apply colored varnish so that it is much longer than wide.

"You should get as close as possible to the cuticle without touching the skin, then draw a vertical line of the nail, leaving a small gap between the edge of the nail wall and the gel," explained nail technician Alexandra Teleki.

Interestingly, the classic French manicure will not help to visually lengthen the nail. Teleki explains that the Italian technique "starts about halfway up the nail on both the left and right to form a 'U' shape.

Nail technician Sonya Mish tells InStyle that this style of manicure is best combined with dark or rich shades of varnish so that the effect is noticeable and does not merge with the natural nail plate.

To create "Italian" nails, you first need to push the corner as far as possible so that you can use the entire application area. When applying a colored coating, it is important to avoid the edges along the width, namely those that round the nail.

"So just paint the middle part of the nail and make sure there is a tiny space between the two sides of the nail plate. This creates the illusion of a longer and narrower nail," says nail technician Hang Nguyen.

However, Italian manicure has one downside. Nail technician Metta Francis explains: "When the nail starts to grow, if you don't regularly lubricate it with cuticle oil, the sides can start to look untidy. With this extra space, a person may also be tempted to pick or tear off the nail polish."
