Style enemies: 7 fashion mistakes that short girls make in winter

Oversize cut is not suitable for all fashionistas.

In winter, short women (up to 160 cm) often face the problem that clothes "steal" a few centimeters of height and "add" extra pounds. Why does this happen? They blindly follow trends or copy styling methods for tall people. At the same time, they do not take into account the features of their own figure (proportions and body type) and do not know their color type. So, make the style work for you, not against you!

Let's take a look at the common fashion mistakes of short women in the cold season in the OBOZ.UA article. Knowing them, you will learn how to create balanced images.

1. Maxi outerwear

Long sheepskin coats, down jackets, and fur coats harmoniously fit into the outfits of tall and medium-sized girls. The same cannot be said for short girls. These products visually make them even shorter: they significantly distort the proportions of the figure (it seems that the body is long and bulky, and the legs are tiny). If you do choose a maxi, correct the undesirable effect with pointed-toe and high-heeled shoes (of course, if the street is not slippery!). But in any weather, the midi length will be optimal.

2. Too much oversize

If you want to wear oversized clothes in winter, don't forget to combine them with clothes that emphasize graceful ankles or wrists (with short sleeves), waist (with a belt or belt), or long neck (with a V-neck). This is important because contrasting shapes help to balance the image. Otherwise, you risk "adding" a few kilograms and significantly "shortening" your height.

3. Colors that are too contrasting

Try to create monochrome outfits (milk, black, chocolate, etc.) or outfits of different dark shades (for example, navy blue with emerald). This will visually stretch your silhouette and make you appear taller than you really are. Why should you not neglect this rule? Too contrasting top and bottom will inevitably "shorten" your height.

4. Horizontal stitches

Give preference to smooth products, which, unlike quilted ones, "stretch" the silhouette and "do not add" extra pounds. It can be sheepskin coats or insulated midi coats. Duffel coats with a short pile are also acceptable. You can take a quilted jacket only in one case: if it is not too voluminous, and the stitch lines are directed vertically (it is extremely difficult to find such a jacket in stores).

5. Glossy fabric

Why is a glossy material (patent leather, silk, etc.) not obvious, but still the enemy of style? It sparkles in the sun, which makes the silhouette of the figure slightly "expand." This applies to any wardrobe item (skirts, pants, shirts, jackets). To avoid the undesirable effect, wear clothes made of matte fabrics, which, on the contrary, visually make the wearer slimmer.

6. Pants that are too wide/too short

We are talking about trendy palace pants, culottes, horseshoe jeans, wide-leg, and similar models. All of them are great for tall women, but for short women (especially in winter outfits) they "shorten" the legs. We advise you to replace them with high-waisted and ankle-length products (straight, flared, mom jeans, etc.).

7. Massive shoes

Forget about ugg boots, chunky sneakers, and so-called snow boots. They spoil the proportions between the body and the feet. Don't make a fool of yourself. Instead, give preference to elegant models with a minimalist design. These can be knee-high boots with a pointed toe, chelsea boots with a low sole, or round-toed boots with a narrow shaft.
