The day before, the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) were held in New York City, hosted by popular American rapper Megan Z Stallion. Traditionally, the ceremony was filled not only with music news, but also with fashion statements. Celebrities boasted stylish looks on the red carpet, and some of them paid tribute to legendary female artists.

In particular, Zee Stallion repeated the iconic image of pop artist Britney Spears. The 2000s star wore a similar costume, complete with a real python, to the VMAs with the song "I'm a Slave 4 U" at the 2001 awards ceremony.

Megan Z. Stallion in a Britney Spears look

At the beginning of the show, changing one of her many looks, Megan took the stage in a racy green bikini top with a turquoise scarf that complemented denim short shorts. Still, the most striking detail of the costume was a yellow python wrapped around the neck and the presenter.

Zee Stallion screamed as crew members came over to remove the snake. Feeling relieved, she paced back and forth for a few seconds before telling the audience: "I was trying to hold it for Britney."

Sabrina Carpenter was inspired by Madonna and Britney

The singer of the hit song "Espresso," popular singer Sabrina Carpenter, shined on the red carpet of the MTV Video Music Awards 2024 in a vintage Bob Mackie gown that the legendary Madonna wore to the 1991 Oscars. The gorgeous white dress with a heart-shaped neckline was embellished with silver beading, which perfectly emphasized Carpenter's delicate necklace. Thanks to the voluminous styling, Sabrina's outfit resembled Madonna and Marilyn Monroe at the same time.

One of the highlights of the VMAs was the 25-year-old singer's performance, which was also inspired by Spears. At the beginning of the number, Carpenter sat on a jeweled swing, with a huge astronaut figurine visible behind her. Finally, phrases from the evergreen 2000s hit "Oops!...I did it again" rang out from the stage, including, "But I thought the old lady let him into the ocean after all."

Tate McRae and Spears' lacy look

Young star Tate McRae has never been shy about her love for Britney Spears. The musician and dancer has certainly followed in the footsteps of the pop princess, including on the red carpet of the MTV VMA 2024 ceremony. At the show, the performer honored Spears' memory in a translucent black lace long-sleeved mini-dress from Roberto Cavalli, similar to the Dolce & Gabbana mini-dress Britney wore in 2001.

Fox and a reserved respect for Britney Spears

Though very low-key, South Korean singer Lisa also paid tribute to the icon in her own way. When she took the stage to perform her hits "New Woman" and "Rockstar," the K-POP star proudly displayed a microphone that attaches to her head. During the "Britney era," the microphone was an absolute must-have for all of her live performances.

Halsey as Elizabeth Hurley

Halsey gave new life to a Versace classic. The 29-year-old singer posed at the VMAs in a red dress once worn by Elizabeth Hurley in the '90s. "Finding that dress was a miracle," she said. - It was designed by Gianni Versace for Elizabeth Hurley in 1996, and no one has worn it since." The 59-year-old actress wore the red dress to the grand opening of the Versace boutique in New York.

Addison Rae was inspired by the pop diva

Singer Addison Rae appeared before the cameras in an all-white ensemble that reminded users of Madonna's performance at the 1984 VMAs, as well as the Queen of Pop's collaboration with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera in 2003. On the red carpet, the 23-year-old star wore a white bra adorned with feathers, a matching bikini and a voluminous skirt.
