What is "glass skin" and how to repeat the famous Korean trend at home

You can often notice that each beauty has her own standards of perfect skin and, depending on this chooses care products with a moist or matte finish. However, there is one trend – "glass skin" – that is quite popular among Korean women, and it attracts Ukrainian women because Asians usually have incredibly good skin.

It is characterized by smooth, slightly shiny, and perfectly even skin. It was first started by makeup artist Ellie Choi, who founded the trend under the hashtag #glassskin on TikTok. There are two important steps in achieving this skin condition: high-quality and deep cleansing and serums that work on moisturizing.

"There needs to be a lot of 'water' just below the top layer of the epidermis to create a moist and shiny look that captures and reflects light," beauty blogger Jude Chao told Women.

How to create "glass skin"

The most important factor in achieving good skin condition is high-quality, gentle, and deep cleansing at the same time. In the evening, it is advisable to use double cleansing, that is, first remove makeup with hydrophilic oil or micellar water, and then wash off all residues with your usual cleansing gel. It is worth noting that your cleanser should not contain a soap base, as this destroys the top layer of the epidermis, which allows you to retain moisture inside.

In particular, the face needs weekly exfoliation. It should also be free of aggressive components, so you should give preference to acid peels or enzyme powders and avoid scrubs that severely injure the skin. It is important not to use any physical methods of exfoliating dead cells if there are inflammatory elements on the face because such manipulations can worsen the external condition.

Another way to exfoliate can be active care products based on AHA, BHA, and PHA acids. They help the skin regenerate faster and exfoliate dead cells, which will give the face a smooth effect.

Please note that double cleansing, exfoliation, and application of active skincare products (except for those containing niacinamide) should be performed in the evening. These procedures can be very irritating to the skin, and in combination with sun exposure, they can cause burns.

The next step is moisturizing. "You can use moisturizing essences, [toners], and serums, maybe even multiple layers of them if you tend to dry skin," dermatologist Geeta Yadav explained to Byrdie.

She advised using products that contain ceramides and hyaluronic acid, as they combine to give the maximum effect of softening and moisturizing.

And finally, you shouldn't forget about a high-quality sunscreen that will help protect your skin from rapid aging and unnecessary rashes or burns. These are the basic components of facial care that are essential for achieving perfect skin.
