Forget about them: 5 dresses that went out of style in 2025
The best investment in your wardrobe is a basic monochrome dress. In a classic color palette. They have not left the trends for decades. We are talking about a little black dress, which was once made famous by designer Coco Chanel, a semi-fitted combination dress, tweed midi, chiffon maxi, and silk A-line midi. Just look at the modern collections and those created by couturiers in the 60s/80s of the XX century... The aforementioned styles will appear there. But what you might miss is temporary trends. For example, infantile pink outfits became iconic thanks to the movie "Barbie" (2023). Or silhouette satin dresses, which were in demand in the early 2000s. They have disappeared from store windows because they outline the figure unfavorably and look "cheap."
And what dress styles left the trend in 2025? Read the article by OBOZ.UA. Remove them from your wardrobe. Alternatively, you can donate them to charity.
1. Bandage dress
This is a model made of dense, elastic material (exclusively synthetic!). It emphasizes every curve of the figure and, accordingly, makes the silhouette more "sculptural." This is no longer relevant, as fashionistas prefer natural fabrics and a looser cut: unlike a bandage dress (which you want to take off in an hour or two), this outfit is comfortable to wear all day long.
2. Hoodie dress
It was adored by lovers of oversize and urban aesthetics. But when they noticed the undesirable effect, they changed their minds. The fact is that a hoodie dress visually distorts the proportions of the figure – the torso seems long and the legs short. We advise you to replace it with a more sophisticated semi-fitted or fitted cut. Finally, you can wear a cropped hoodie with jeans. This ensemble is timeless.
3. Dress with a balloon skirt/ruffles
Leave these design elements or any other kitschy details (decor in the form of sequins, feathers, colorful prints, or embroidery) to children's clothes. As an adult, "doll" styles are inappropriate. They can give a false impression of you. Instead, look for dresses with an A-line silhouette, a pleated hem, a godet (a tight-fitting model that widens downward), or trapeze dresses.
4. Corduroy dress
Corduroy adds an interesting retro accent to the looks. It is still relevant for pants, jackets, and shirts. But for dresses, this material is not the best solution: it is easily wrinkled and rubbed; it has a dense texture and a specific shine that weighs down the silhouette. How to replace it? More durable outfits made of denim, suit fabric, tweed, or knitwear.
5. Knitted dress with massive patterns
Even though this item makes you feel cozy, you'll have to replace it (or wear it only at home). Voluminous patterns and thick yarn visually add extra pounds and distort the proportions of the figure. What are the alternatives? A ribbed dress, a crochet dress, a dress with openwork knitting, or, for example, a knitted dress with a pleated hem. Each of them can be styled with a loose-fitting jacket.
