Diana Frances Spencer formed her iconic style long before her marriage to Prince Charles (now King of the United Kingdom) and in accordance with her status as a princess (July 29, 1981). How did she do it? The fact is that she was not afraid to experiment with bold prints, rich colors, extravagant jewelry and different silhouettes (from sporty oversized to elegant dresses that correctly outline the shape). Thus, Lady Di's ability to create spectacular ensembles is not a merit of the court stylists, but her well-honed talent.

In the material of OBOZ.UA, we have prepared a selection of the most interesting, in our opinion, images of Diana Spencer, in which she appeared in public before marriage. You can repeat each of them today, adapting them to modern trends.

1. Checkered dress

On January 1, 1981, Diana Spencer visited Cyprus. She wore a wool midi dress with a tartan check print and black leather shoes with small heels. The cut of the dress successfully emphasized the hourglass figure of the future princess. In addition, the white ruffled collar and white tights contrasting with the rich dark pattern balanced the look (adding tenderness and lightness to it). In order to avoid too many accents, Lady Di wore a minimum of jewelry: a gold watch and subtle pearl earrings.

2. Jeans and a sheep sweater

In June 1981, Lady Diana Spencer appeared at a polo match in Windsor wearing gold earrings and a bracelet, dark blue jeans and an extraordinary red jumper with sheep (one animal is black and the rest are white) from the Warm and Wonderful brand. With this image, she gently hinted to the public and journalists that she did not feel quite comfortable around members of the British royal family (in other words, like a black sheep). Lady Di adored this piece, so in 1983 she wore it again to a polo match, pairing it with red shoes, white pants, and a blouse with a black bow on the collar.

3. Bermuda and a blouse with puffed sleeves

On July 1, 1981, the paparazzi photographed Lady Di and Prince Charles aboard His Majesty's Yacht Britannia. Then the future princess wore the ever-popular Bermuda shorts and a blouse with puffed sleeves decorated with ruffles. She completed her look with a sand panama hat and white open-toed ballet flats. It was a combination of three styles at once: playful romantic, casual and safari (headdress). In general, it was a minimalist but carefully thought out look that emphasized Lady Di's natural elegance and love of comfort.

4. Checkered skirt and jumper

In October 1980, Diana Spencer walked the streets of London wearing black ballet flats with contrasting trim, a monochrome navy blue jumper, a white shirt, a checkered midi skirt, and a minimalist leather watch. All of this is a stylish preppy ensemble, which is characterized by calm shades, simple cut and high-quality materials. There is another interesting detail in the look - a wicker rattan bag. At the time, this accessory was just beginning to gain popularity, and Lady Di, as a true connoisseur of trends, took this into account.

5. Blue suit and blouse with a bow

On February 24, 1981, Prince Charles and Diana Spencer officially announced their engagement. In honor of the important event, they organized a festive photo shoot at Buckingham Palace. The future princess wore a blue Cojana suit with wavy lapels and a matching belt, as well as an exquisite blouse with a bow and a bird print. This outfit perfectly matched Lady Di's blond hair, blue eyes and pale skin tone. The outfit was completed with pearl earrings, a sapphire engagement ring, a black leather clutch, blue nylon tights and black ballet flats. Nothing superfluous!
